Mission, vision, values and goals

Mission Statement
To document, conserve and exhibit the rich cultural history of Campobello Island and its people; to respectfully display its heritage and raise cultural awareness.

Vision Statement
To preserve and celebrate the rich cultural history of Campobello Island and its people; to inform, include and engage islanders and visitors while maintaining respect for diversity; and to create an inviting sought-after destination.

Goals
The museum will preserve and catalog important objects and documents and will use those items to provide educational and cultural programs for the public – both within the museum and beyond its walls:

  • Inventory and catalog objects and documents.
  • Preserve objects and documents.
  • Reorganize and redistribute current artifacts and displays to support the mission statement.
  • Strengthen ties to the island community.
  • Solicit and accept donations to the museum following established acquisition and accessioning guidelines (i.e., Deed of Gift, Provenance).
  • Build relationships with the community and encourage community use of the museum.
  • Create opportunities for the public to assist with museum interpretation.
  • Develop programs that fit into the curriculum of the Campobello Island Consolidated School.
  • Create revolving exhibits around important dates and island events.
  • Work with the community to create better access to and expansion of existing genealogical records.
  • Train volunteer interpreters/guides.
  • Encourage collaboration with the Roosevelt Campobello International Park on events and exhibits.
  • Work with the tourism association and private groups to incorporate a visit to the museum on sightseeing tours.
  • Continue to host talks and presentations.
  • Develop an appropriate social media outreach plan, including a blog option.
  • Create and maintain digital tours using appropriate platforms. These digital tours could also be used to promote local attractions, businesses and events that may bring visitors to the museum.
